Background…

I have really enjoyed learning languages over the last three years.  My relative success with Spanish has only egged me on to try learning even more them.  When I moved to Peru I came across a German school called Acupari which was cheap, had native German teachers, and worked perfectly with my work schedule; therefore, I decided to take a semester course of German just for a goof.  I went to class as often as I could (I had to miss many classes due to work obligations) and never did my homework.  I went simply because I enjoyed going and my only expectation was to learn as much of the basics as I could. The following is writing sample of some of the things I covered in class.

The Sample:

Mein Name ist Jack. Ich bin 28 Jahre Alt.  Ich komme aus den USA und Irland, aber wohne jetze hier in Cusco, Peru.  Ich arbeite als Projektoordinator bie Máximo Nivel.  Vorher war ich ein Lehrer.  Ich mag Sprachen.  Meine Muttersprache ist Englisch und ich spreche gut Spanisch.  Ich kann ein bischen Französisch und Deutsch sprechen.  Ich lerne Deutsch ins Deutschschule heiẞt Acupari hier in Cusco.

Mein Vater heiẞt John und meine Mutter heiẞt Joan.  Ich habe einen Bruder. Er heiẞt Gary.  Meine Eltern kommen aus Irland aber wohnen jetzt in New York aus den USA.  Mein Bruder kommt aus den USA und er liebst mit meine Eltern.  Mein Vater und mein Bruder sind Zimmermann und meine Mutter arbeitet als Hundecoiffeur.  Meine Eltern haben drei Hunde und alles sind Irish Setters.  Ich habe keine Frau und keine Kinder.  Ich habe eine Freundin.  Sie heiẞt Leslie.  Sie kommt aus Mexiko und sie ist Wissenschaftlerin.

Ich lebe in einer groẞen Wohnung mit fünf Mitbewohnern und eine Ratte.  In miene Wohnung es gibt zwei Sofas, vier Stuhle, ein Tisch, ein Teppich und ein Lampe, aber es gibt kein Bild, kein Schrank oder keir Radio.  Wir haben ein Garten aber ohne Blumen. In meinen Zimmer es gibt ein Bett, eine Computer und veil Buchen aber kein Schrank.

Ich habe viele Hobbys.  Ich mag gern lesen.  Ich habe „Game of Thrones“ in Spanisch gelesen. Ich kann sehr gut kochen.  Gestern habe ich einen groẞen Chili gekocht.  Ich spiele gern Schach und ich mag Brownies backen.  Nachts mag ich Karaoke singen.

What’s Next?

Clearly, my level is still super basic.  I will, unfortunately, not be taking the follow-up semester of classes because I am swamped with work and honestly need some more free time for me; that being said, I hope to continue learning little-by-little through German songs, some TV shows and maybe a little reading.  More updates to come in the future.  Good luck to all y’all in your language learning journeys…
