A Long Time Coming
Basically everyone who comes to Cuzco for a little while does some hiking around Temple of the Moon. My friend Medy used to go basically every other weekend. It took me over a year and a half before I finally made it up, and it was a lovely day spent with Medy, Colin and my buddy Cory!
Getting There
We decided to take a taxi up to Qenko, a ruin site where many people with the “boleto turistico” go to explore. You can also take a bus up there but in an effort to save time grabbed a taxi, and between us all it was still very economical. After getting off we walked up a street behind the Qenko ruins and through a field until we arrived at a giant stone known as the Temple of the Moon.
Exploring
It’s very beautiful up in this area and so peaceful compared to the city center of Cuzco and stress of work… and it’s really close. Lots of people bring dogs up here to run around and horseback riding tours explore around this area. We walked around the whole temple, got into some caves, checked out the Chapaqñan road, walked all over the place, found a letter written to Pachamama, and eventually made our way to the top of the Temple of the Moon which provided wonderful views.
The Best Part
Without a doubt, it was sharing the day with my friends. Thanks for introducing me to this site, Medy. I hope you are well…
Such beautiful photos… fascinating place!!
